Affiliate Disclosure
To keep this site free for everyone, we sometimes use affiliate links. This means we may earn a small commission if you buy something through our links, at no extra cost to you.
Plain English
How affiliate links work on this site
Some "Buy from [Supplier]" buttons on our calculator pages are affiliate links. If you click one and complete a purchase, we may receive a small commission from the retailer — typically 5% of the order value, paid by the retailer, not by you.
Affiliate commission is paid by the retailer from their own margin. The price you pay is identical whether you arrive via our link or navigate directly to the supplier's website. We will never add a surcharge, markup, or hidden cost through an affiliate relationship.
Our calculator logic, quantity recommendations, and cost estimates are computed from first principles — material density, volume, settling factors, and UK market pricing. They are not adjusted to favour any supplier. We sometimes show results where our affiliate partner is not the cheapest option, and we show this honestly.
Every affiliate link on this site carries a visible Affiliate badge. Non-affiliate links (general guidance, competitor references, regulatory links) carry no badge.

Privacy
Tracking cookies & your privacy
When you click an affiliate link, the affiliate network (currently Awin) sets a tracking cookie on your device. This cookie records which publisher (us) referred you, so that if you complete a purchase, the commission can be correctly attributed. The cookie contains no personally identifiable information about you.
This is standard across affiliate marketing and is disclosed in our cookie consent banner under the "Marketing" category. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your cookies or using your browser's privacy controls.
For full details of how Awin processes data, see Awin's Privacy Policy. For how Material Calculator handles your data, see our Privacy Policy.
Our promise
Editorial independence
Material Calculator was built to give UK trades and DIY users accurate, useful quantity estimates — not to sell products. Affiliate income helps keep the calculators free and ad-free, but it comes second to accuracy and honesty.
We show competitors' prices and sometimes recommend alternatives that pay us no commission, when they are genuinely better value for the user.
Supplier cards appear after the primary calculator results — they are supplementary, not the centrepiece.
We only enter affiliate relationships with suppliers whose products we are comfortable recommending on their own merits.
No advertiser or affiliate partner can pay to have their product recommended, ranked higher, or featured in calculator outputs.
